XAU/USD Correlation & Price-Action Outlook
By Piyush Ratnu | Quant Gold Strategist
18 Aug – 19 Aug 2026: $4424-4324-4444-4488 | Projected in advance: BUY LOWS, proved a correct trading strategy
The immediate Quantamental correlation structure remains strongly supportive of XAU/USD, with Gold trading around $4,425.73. My assessment is based on the combined behaviour of the US Dollar, Treasury yields, USD/JPY, precious-metals relative strength and the prevailing technical structure.
DXY at 99.10 ↓ — Bullish for Gold: The pronounced weakness in the US Dollar remains one of the strongest supportive factors for XAU/USD. A softer Dollar improves the relative pricing environment for Gold and reinforces the current upside structure.
US10Y at 4.649% ↓ — Bullish for Gold: The decline in US 10-Year Treasury yields reduces the opportunity cost associated with holding non-yielding Gold. Falling yields alongside a weaker Dollar create an increasingly constructive combination for XAU/USD.
USD/JPY at 158.52 ↓ — Supportive for Gold: The decline in USD/JPY provides additional confirmation of broad USD weakness. Yen appreciation against the Dollar strengthens the correlation framework supporting Gold.
XAU/XAG at 68.55 — Relative Gold Strength: The ratio indicates that Gold continues to demonstrate relative strength within the precious-metals complex and remains an important confirmation parameter in my correlation framework.
Crude Oil at $84.16 — Inflation/Risk Factor: Elevated crude prices can sustain inflation expectations and geopolitical risk premiums. Its influence on Gold is less direct and must therefore be evaluated alongside yields, the Dollar and broader risk sentiment.
Technical Structure
The critical development is XAU/USD’s recovery to approximately $4,425, placing price decisively above the displayed moving-average cluster around $4,370–$4,384. This represents a significant structural improvement from the earlier $4,323–$4,369 price region.
My current correlation equation is:
DXY ↓ + US10Y ↓ + USD/JPY ↓ = XAU/USD ↑
Current XAU/USD Bias: BULLISH
CMP: $4,444.73
The previously identified resistance structure provides the immediate roadmap:
R1 $4,404 ✓ ACHIEVED →
R2 $4,444 ✓ ACHIEVED→
R3 $4,488✓ ACHIEVED
As long as XAU/USD maintains acceptance above the $4,404–$4,384 structural zone, I consider the correlation framework supportive of continued upside pressure toward $4,444, followed by the broader $4,488 extension.
A simultaneous reversal higher in DXY, US10Y and USD/JPY would weaken this bullish alignment and require reassessment of the prevailing Gold scenario.
My approach does not rely on any single correlation. XAU/USD is evaluated through the collective behaviour of macroeconomic variables, cross-asset correlations, liquidity, market structure and price action. Correlation provides confirmation—not certainty—and relationships can temporarily diverge during major macroeconomic or geopolitical events.
